The Conscient World Cup 2018 continues in Mumbai despite monsoons!

The Conscient World Cup 2018 suffered the wrath of the monsoons in Mumbai last weekend and the matches had to be rescheduled. The change in schedule could not dampen the spirits of footballers in Mumbai and the competition continued to see great energy and effort from all teams.

The matches were scheduled on Thursday, June 14 were for Girls U-19 and they showed a lot of spirit and hunger during their match day. The matches increased in intensity as the semifinals started for the U-19 Category on this Girl’s Day out. GIFA and KNFC set up a final summit clash of the CWC U19 Girls Category. GIFA entered the finals after a nervewracking match where they scored an early goal and had to defend throughout the match, the match was however sealed when GIFA scored again in the final seconds of the match and ensured that the FCBEscola Blau team does not come back into the game. The other team in the finals is KNFC who secured a superb win against the Soccer United Girls team who had played brilliantly throughout the early stages of the tournament. Earlier in the evening, Valiente FC secured their first points of the tournament after some resolute defending against FCBEscola Blau team, however, they lost their other match against Soccer United.

The euphoria generated during Girl’s day out suggests towards the immense potential of the game among girls and a concentrated and collective effort should definitely yield immense results. The popularity of sports among girls is steadily increasing and thus the officials at the Conscient World Cup expressed their desire to increase the size of the tournament for the girls in the future iterations.

This reaction at a private tournament suggests that a serious attempt to include girls into sports should be made in order to increase their involvement.
