The South West Asian Football Federation (SWAFF) formed, India amongst founding members!

Earlier this week on Thursday, May 10, it saw the formation of a new regional federation in the South West Asian Football Federation (SWAFF) in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah.

India and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) are a founding member of the South West Asian Football Federation (SWAFF) alongside Bangladesh, Bahrain, Kuwait, Maldives, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sri Lanka and Yemen.

The South West Asian Football Federation (SWAFF) has been formed under the leadership of the Saudi Arabia Football Federation with the SWAFF headquarters set to be in Jeddah.

The aim of the South West Asian Football Federation (SWAFF) is to develop football in the south and west regions of Asia, but due to political compulsions a number of west Asian countries are not a part of SWAFF while Nepal and Bhutan from South Asia could not attend the meeting.

Also so far the newly formed South West Asian Football Federation (SWAFF) has no affiliation with the continental body Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and if it will impact the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) and South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) or if it will coexist with these regional bodies.

For India a new South West Asian Football Federation (SWAFF) above the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) makes sense in regard to exposure of Indian national teams, senior and juniors, and knowledge exchange.

One will have to await the further developments.
