U-18 I-League: Sporting Clube de Goa & Dempo SC play out goalless draw!

Sporting Clube de Goa Under-18s and Dempo SC Under-18s played out a goalless draw in their final fixture of the U-18 I-League on Thursday afternoon at the Duler Stadium in Mapusa.

The initial part of the first half was a drab affair, it took 25 minutes to mark the first real action when Gopi Kesarkar of Sporting Goa dribbled past two defenders to send in a dangerous cross but failed to find any orange shirts at the end of it. In the 38th minute, Alston Camotio free kick saw the Dempo keeper fumble leaving the ball close to a lurking Gopi within the box, but the latter prejudged his footing making a mess of the opening. For Dempo, Shubert Pereira created the best opportunity towards the closing stages but Sporting Goa custodian Akshat’s reflexes made sure no damage was done to the scoreboard.

In the second half, Dempo skipper Aaron Rodrigues and Sezwin Fernandes came close of poking one in after the Sporting Goa custodian Akshat Hadkonkar failed to make a clean collect but couldn’t make it count. At the hour mark, Dempo once again came close when Sezwin managed a fabulous cross to Kapil Hoble who just had Akshat to beat but sent a weak shot straight to the keeper. Kapil once again made a mess of the opportunity in the 73rd minute when he failed to connect with a pin point cross from his skipper Aaron. Sporting Goa responded soon when Brandon Gomes got hold of a loose ball in the deep to take a swing from about 35 yards out but couldn’t beat Preston Rego in between the sticks.

This goalless result would mean the two teams, Sporting Clube de Goa and Dempo SC, are out of the U-18 I-League with AIFF Elite Academy & Salgaocar FC qualifying from Goa.
