U-18 Youth League: Chennaiyin FC U-18s put six past Football Plus!

The Chennaiyin FC Under-18 team ran out 6-2 winners against Football Plus in an U-18 Youth League 2018/19 encounter at the SSN College Ground today. Two goals apiece from forwards Aman Chetri and Vijay Thangavel powered the Chennaiyin FC U-18s to their first win of the campaign, with Joysana Singh and Mohammed Sarif Khan also getting on the scoresheet.

Chennaiyin FC made one change to their starting lineup from the team that began in the 2-2 draw against Raman Vijayan Soccer School in their previous game as right-back Selvaniranjan replaced midfielder Kartik Nayyar

Chennaiyin FC were quick off the blocks, taking the lead within the opening five minutes. Ajin Tom sent in an inviting cross into the box which Vijay Thangavel did well to connect with, his shot taking a deflection before finding the back of the net.

Chennaiyin FC dominated proceedings for the majority of the first period, and they made it 2-0 just before the half-hour mark. A flowing team move led to Chennaiyin FC forwards Aman Chetri and Vijay drawing successive saves from the Football Plus goalkeeper. The ball then fell to Joysana, who kept his composure to find the back of the net.

After the break, Football Plus began strongly and pulled one back through Jino S. in the 51st minute. Chennaiyin FC had opportunities to hit back almost immediately but were wasteful in the final third.

Then with a quarter of the game to go, Aman was brought down in the Football Plus box and the referee pointed to the spot. He sent off Football Plus player Ajay S. for the offence with a second yellow card. Up stepped Mohammed Sarif Khan, who made no mistake from the penalty spot, and restored Chennaiyin FC’s two-goal cushion. Aman then scored his second goal of the season with a well-taken fourth for Chennaiyin FC, beating his man and rounding the goalkeeper to tap into an open goal. Two minutes later Aman turned provider, setting up Vijay who made it 5-1 to Chennaiyin FC.

The hosts then conceded their second through a Saurabh Meher own goal. The Chennaiyin FC skipper mistimed his clearance and the ball ended up in the back of the Chennaiyin FC net. Three minutes later Aman completed his brace and made it 6-2, turning in an inch-perfect cross from Hendry Antonay on the left.

The Chennaiyin FC U-18s will be up against FC Madras (formerly Mahogany FC) in their next AIFF U-18 Youth League fixture on Monday, October 29 at the SSN College Ground, Chennai.
