U-18 Youth League – Final Round: Bengaluru FC U18s claim crucial win, down DSK Shivajians FC 2-1!

First half goals from Kishori (18′) and Biswa Darjee (38′) handed Bengaluru FC U-18s their first win in the U-18 Youth League Final Phase as they overcame DSK Shivajians FC 2-1 in a second-round encounter at the Meghalaya Football Association Turf in Shillong on Friday.

Going into the game on the back of a goalless draw, the Blue Colts needed a win to strengthen their position in the standings, and they began the game positively. The youngsters were rewarded for their persistence when Kishori broke the deadlock in the 18th minute. Playmaker Lalengzama Vangchhia made a good run down the left before getting into the box and cutting it back to Kishori who smashed home from close to make it 1-0.

DSK Shivajians FC however pulled level in the 33rd minute when Laldawngkima converted from the penalty spot after defender Dawanplielad Myrchiang committed a foul in the Bengaluru FC box. At the other end, the Blue Colts bounced back almost immediately with Lalengzama once again being the provider to skipper Biswa whose close-range header on the cross in from the right beat Gurmeet in the rival goal.

The second half was an even affair with both sides trading blows. However, some good defending by the Blue Colts helped them stay in control of proceedings and secure a well-deserved win.

While the result puts Bengaluru FC on the top of Group-C with 4 points, they are joined by Kerala Blasters at the summit, who defeated Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools 3-2 in the other game of the day. DSK Shivajians FC (3 points) are also alive going into the final round of games. Bengaluru FC U18s will now face Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools in their final game on Sunday, May 20 and will need to better the results of Kerala Blasters and DSK Shivajians FC who face off later in the day.
