Wholesome friendly between AFC-UNHCR and NFAP!

It was a morning of fun-filled football activities as students from the AFC-UNHCR and Name Football Association of Petaling (NFAP) met in a friendly match at the SJK (T) Ladang Vallambrosa, Klang, Malaysia on Sunday, October 14.

The event was officiated by representatives from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), NFAP, UNHCR, the Rohingya Education Centre (JREC) and SJK (T) Ladang Vallambrosa.

The event kicked off with a football clinic led by four AFC coaches, training 55 students from JREC and NFAP aged between 10 and 16-years-old, followed by friendly matches between the students.

The AFC-UNHCR participants are part of the Phase Two programme of the AFC-UNHCR pact, to provide refugees opportunities under the AFC Dream Asia Foundation.

The programme encompasses empowerment, education and social inclusion through sports-related activities.

The partnership between the AFC and UNHCR is made complete with JREC, as students from the education centre have been actively participating in the football training sessions, as well as educational sessions since September 2017.

Recognising the need to encourage sports among the youth, Selvanathan Muniandy, the school headmaster and venue organiser, said such programmes organised in the school can give students the opportunity to pursue a career in football.

“Many of our former students are currently playing with NFAP, and this gives more opportunities and encouragement to students to play district, state and even national level football,” Muniandy said.

The three-hour event ended with a prize-giving ceremony to recognise the players, coaches, as well as organisers.
