After the recent good show of Minerva Punjab FC boys in the AFC U-23 Championship qualifiers in Qatar, four Minervans namely, Germanpreet Singh, Manvir Singh, Davinder Singh and Anirudh Thapa have now been called-up by head coach Stephan Constantine for the senior India squad.
Midfielder Germanpreet Singh scored a brilliant goal for India U-22s away in a friendly against Singapore, while former Minerva striker Manvir Singh, now with Mohammedan Sporting and set to join FC Goa of the ISL, scored the equaliser in India’s 3-1 win over Turkmenistan in the final qualifying match. Anirudh Thapa in midfielder and Davinder Singh got their playing time during the tournament.
Apart from the above mentioned Minervans, three Chandigarh city boys namely Sandesh Jhingan, Sumit Passi and Gurpreet Singh Sandhu have also been called up for the Senior team. These three Chandigarh boys are products of the St. Stephan’s Academy in Chandigarh and are regulars in India teams.
