1.FC Köln have made further decisions regarding the setup of the club’s coaching staff. Assistant Coach René Wagner and Goalkeeper Coach Uwe Gospodarek are no longer part of the team and have been released.
“We asked for a clear commitment from all members of the coaching staff that they want to continue on our path until the end of the season in May. René, who is both professionally and personally a very highly regarded member of staff, spoke of his high level of loyalty to FC. When looking at his CV, it is also understandable that his loyalty to Steffen is a little higher. In other words: he made it clear that he would like to follow Steffen if he finds a new job. We respect that but it was also clear, that we would not continue together along the same path,” said 1.FC Köln Managing Director, Christian Keller before the start of training on Tuesday, January 2.
“We also respect the work of Uwe an awful lot. He did a good job and was well thought of in the coaching staff as well as with his goalkeepers. In this case, the decision was different. Looking at the new make-up of the coaching staff, from a club strategy perspective, we have decided to make a change at the position of Goalkeeper Coach,” explained Keller, as to the parting of ways from Uwe Gospodarek.
