1.FC Köln sign striker Davie Selke from Hertha BSC!

1.FC Köln have strengthened their attacking options with Davie Selke. The 27-year-old striker has joined FC from Bundesliga rivals Hertha BSC and has signed a deal until June 30, 2024.

1.FC Köln managing director Christian Keller said, “Davie fits into our way of playing really well and the profile of striker that we were looking for. As a classic number nine, he has his qualities in the box and still works incredibly hard without the ball. With his physical presence, his strong heading ability and his finishing, he will help our team when we put him in the position to do so. We are also convinced that he and his maturity will help five the team important impulses on and off the pitch.”

Davie Selke said, “What has gone on and developed in the last 18 months at FC is obviously something I’ve taken notice of from afar. This positive impression has been confirmed in the good talks I’ve had with those responsible here. I think that the way I play fits in well with the system that Steffen Baumgart plays. I want to show that here, to work hard and do my bit, preferably with goals, to make sure that we are successful.”

Davie Selke was born on January 20, 1995 in Schorndorf. In his academy days, he played for several teams in the region, including Stuttgarter Kickers and VfB Stuttgart. Between 2009 and 2012, he was at TSG Hoffenheim before moving to Werder Bremen in January 2013. In the 2013-14 season, he made his debut for the first-team at the age of 18 after coming on in the 3-2 home win against Hannover 96. In the following season he became a first-team regular and made 30 Bundesliga appearances, scoring nine times.

Selke then joined RB Leipzig, where he ended the season as top-scorer (10 goals) and were promoted to the Bundesliga. He made 21 appearances in total for Leipzig in the top tier, finding the back of the net four times. For the 2017-18 campaign, he signed for Hertha BSC (114 Bundesliga games/19 goals), whilst also playing on loan for Werder Bremen between January 2020 and June 2021.
