The AFC Governance Workshop concluded successfully in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Monday, marking yet another instance of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s efforts to maximise the potential of its Member Associations (MAs) and Regional Associations through tailored services.
Attended by 32 participants from the Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) as well as the FABD Normalisation Committee, the programme was organised with the primary objective of aiding members of the FABD to strengthen their understanding of good governance practices while supporting their efforts towards the sustainable development of football in the Southeast Asian nation.
The workshop commenced with a welcome address from AFC General Secretary Datuk Seri Windsor John, during which he reaffirmed the Confederation’s commitment to supporting its Member Associations (MAs) in enhancing their capabilities.
“All of us have a role to play in safeguarding the future of Asian football and our MAs are among the fundamental pillars in helping us realise our shared ambitions for the game,” said the AFC General Secretary.
“We must ensure that our beautiful game continues to be rooted in transparency, accountability, integrity, and trust, which can happen only if we have stability within our MAs.”
The participants then heard from AFC Deputy General Secretary – MA Division, Vahid Kardany, who provided key insights on the best practices that underpin good governance.
The session proved especially informative through its explanation of the key roles, functions, and responsibilities of the Executive Committee, including their respective mandates in ensuring effective governance and decision-making processes.
Moreover, the workshop served as an excellent platform for attendees to receive guidance on the duties, expectations, and ethical responsibilities of committee members to ensure accountability, transparency, and professionalism in carrying out their roles.
The capacity-building initiative also highlighted the importance of tenets such as fairness and responsible management practices, further reinforcing the AFC’s commitment to strengthening governance standards across Asian football.
