Regarded as one of the finest midfielders in Bangladesh football history, Badal made his debut for Dhaka Mohammedan SC in 1977, spending his entire career of 12 years with the black and whites and winning the domestic league title on five occasions.
The AFC President said: “On behalf of the whole Asian football family, please accept my heartfelt sympathies and condolences on the passing of Badal Roy.”
“He spent his entire life towards the development of sport, in particular football and his contributions to Bangladesh and Asian football will always be cherished. We have lost a true servant of the game and the Asian football family joins me in mourning this great lost,” added Shaikh Salman.
Badal represented Bangladesh from 1981 to 1986, going on to captain the national side on several occasions. After hanging up his boots, he served as BFF Vice-President, Deputy Secretary General of the Bangladesh Olympic Association and Treasurer of the National Sports Council and was the recipient of the National Sports Award in 2009.
The thoughts and prayers of the AFC and the rest of the Asian football community are with the loved ones and friends of Badal, the BFF and the Bangladesh football family during this difficult time.
