Gracias made his International Debut for India in 1967 against Western Australia in Kuala Lumpur and scored in his debut match itself. He scored four International goals including a hattrick against Hong Kong in the 1967 Merdeka Cup. He also represented India in the 1968 AFC Asia Cup Qualifiers in Rangoon in 1967.
AIFF President Praful Patel in his message said: “It is sad to hear that Mr. Marto Gracias is no more. His contribution to Indian Football will never be forgotten. I share the grief.”
AIFF General Secretary Kushal Das said: “Mr. Marto Gracias will be alive in his achievements. He has been the inspiration of so many Footballers. May He Rest in Peace.”
At the domestic level, Marto Gracias captained Maharashtra in the Santosh Trophy and scored 11 goals during the period 1967-1975. He also played for Salgaocar SC (1965, 1966) and Tata Sports Club in Mumbai from 1967-1979.
