AIFF wants I-League & ISL merged by summer 2018!

One of the biggest issues in Indian football at the moment is when and how the I-League and the Indian Super League will be merged into one league entity for the All India Football Federation and Indian football to be confirm with the international rules and regulations of world governing body FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation.

The AIFF aims to complete the merger by summer 2017, but if things don’t work out then it could take a year longer and everything will be done by summer 2018

AIFF General Secretary Kushal Das told IANS, “We are not viewing it as a merger of ISL and I-League. It is a review of Indian club football structure. So far, we have held only initial discussions. There will be several more discussions regarding it.”

“No benchmark or time frame has been targeted to complete the process. But we are trying to do it as soon as possible. We are trying to do it by 2017, or else it will be done in 2018,” he added.

“We are looking at how to do it, when to do it, so it is not simply a merger. The top league will be opened to allow bids from other clubs. But it would be wrong to call it a merger,” Kushal Das went on to say.
