Bengaluru FC continue unbeaten run with 1-1 draw against Roots FC!

Bengaluru FC’s unbeaten start to the Reliance Foundation Development League continued with a 1-1 draw against Roots FC at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Wednesday. A strike from Jonathan Franco (61′) was canceled out by Kamalesh Palanisamy’s strike (66′) as the two teams played out an entertaining contest.

Kaizad Ambapardiwala, who took charge of the side, made three changes from the team that put nine goals past Mohammedan Sporting in the Blue Colts’ previous encounter, with Robin Yadav, Fanai Lalremtluanga and Satendra Singh making way for Harpreet Singh, Damaitphang Lyngdoh and Harsh Patre.

Bengaluru FC dominated possession in the first half but couldn’t convert it into clear-cut chances. Both teams played with a safe-than-sorry approach, resulting in a cagey first 45 half which failed to produce a goal.

Into the second period, the two sides showed more zest and adventure in attack, and it was the away side that took the lead just past the hour mark, when Franco tapped home a cross by Shashwath. But Ambapardiwala’s side ensured the lead would be short-lived, as Kamalesh leveled the scoreline soon after the opener. The winger was set through on goal by Thoi Singh and made no mistake in slotting home past Roots goalkeeper Sujay.

The two teams went hard in their quest to find the eventual winner, but it was a tale of two resolute defensive units, who ensured that neither side could find the winner, as the points were shared in the end.

While Bengaluru FC’s 100% record came to an end, they continue to remain unbeaten atop the Southern Regional Qualifiers standings, with 13 points.

The Blue Colts next face Sreenidi Deccan FC at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Saturday with kick-off scheduled for 8am.
