Peter Hermann will be the experienced head in the new coaching team. With more than three decades in the professional game – during which he has deliberately worked mostly as an assistant coach – the 70-year-old has been involved in almost 1,000 matches in the top two national divisions and DFB-Pokal, and a further 200 games in European club competitions such as the UEFA Champions League and Europa League. Hermann joins the BVB coaching team as a Champions League winner, a serial German Bundesliga champion and a DFB-Pokal winner.
The 38-year-old Geppert already served as one of Terzic’s assistants in the 2020/21 season, in which the latter led the first team to DFB-Pokal victory and qualified for the UEFA Champions League while in interim charge. This brief spell of just under half a year aside, Geppert has been in charge of BVB’s U-17s since 2016 – a spell during which time they won the German B-Junior Championship once (2018) and finished as runners-up once (2019).
