Delhi FC off the mark in Delhi Senior Division after comeback win against Hindustan FC!

On the back of impressive campaigns in the Durand Cup and I-League Qualifiers, Delhi FC arrived to play their first game in the Delhi Senior Division against Hindustan FC.

Starting off as favorites, Delhi FC had their first shot on target as early as in the 2nd minute, as Nikhil Mali shot from 25 yards, but it was held on easily enough by the goalkeeper.

Hindustan FC then got a chance in the 11th minute, but keeper Suraj Mallick made a good save to keep it out.

Himanshu Jangra was looking lively as ever for Delhi FC on the right-wing as he was causing the Hindustan FC defence plenty of problems with his pace. He teed up Sergio Barboza on the edge of the D, but the Brazilian’s shot was blocked and went out for a corner.

Delhi FC then almost made a costly error, as a mistake in defence opened up a chance for Hindustan FC to put the ball into an empty net, but they missed from 25 yards and Delhi FC were off the hook.

Delhi FC dominated the first half, but it was 0-0 at halftime.

After the break, Sergio Barboza was put through on goal and was one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but his shot was saved.

Immediately after that, Hindustan FC got an attack going on the right, and Dobriyal cut inside to send the ball into the top corner with his left foot. It was 1-0 to Hindustan FC.

Delhi FC got right back into the game though in the 62nd minute. Himanshu Jangra robbed the defender and cut the ball across, which was initially saved by the goalkeeper, but on the second attempt, Sergio Barboza slammed home to make it 1-1.

Delhi FC kept pushing forward looking to take the lead, and they finally got it in the 82nd minute. Anwar Ali made a surging run down the left and found Laiwang with an excellent ball on the right. Laiwang took a touch, steadied himself and put his right foot through it to find the top corner. It was 2-1 to Delhi FC.

Dipanda Dicka then sealed the points for Delhi FC in the 87th minute. Laiwang found him in the box, but it fell awkwardly for the Cameroonian. However, that didn’t stop him from acrobatically going for the bicycle kick, and score a stunning goal to make it 3-1.

It ended 3-1 in favor of Delhi FC, who made a stunning comeback and with that, open their account in the Delhi Senior Division 2021-22.

Their next game will be against Shastri FC on October 29.
