Delhi FC storm into final of Bordoloi Trophy after thrashing Chirang Duar 4-0!

Delhi FC maintained their 100% record in the Bordoloi Trophy as they won their fourth consecutive game, thrashing Chirang Duar 4-0 in the semifinals to book their place in the final.

Chirang Duar were placed in Group A, with the likes of former I-League club Shillong Lajong FC and ISL club NorthEast United FC. Chirang Duar beat Shillong Lajong FC, while they held NorthEast United FC to a 1-1 draw in the group stage on their road to the semifinals.

They won the State Futsal Championship and as a result, also played in the National Futsal Championship in 2021, which Delhi FC won.

Chirang Duar had two foreigners in their starting line-up. One of them was A. Ola, who was also the captain of the Rajasthan United FC side which played Delhi FC in the I-League qualifiers last year. Chirang Duar’s left-back, Maneshwar, was another ex-Rajasthan United man. With the 4-0 thrashing, Delhi FC were also able to exact revenge of sorts for the result in the I-League qualifiers against Ola and Maneshwar.

Delhi FC started the game on the front foot, causing all sorts of problems to the Chirang Duar defense.

They created plenty of half-chances during the first half an hour, but the breakthrough arrived in the 39th minute.

A quickly-taken throw-in found its way to Kosuka Yamazuki down the left, who played it to Krishna down the byline. Krishna dribbled past two men and slotted the ball into the net from a tight angle.

Delhi FC went into half-time with a 1-0 lead, with one foot into the final.

In the second half, it took five minutes for Delhi FC to double their lead. This time it was a counter-attack that reaped dividends. Kosuke again started the counter as he held the ball up, playing it through on the left. An excellent cross saw Radhakanta get on the end of it to make it 2-0.

In the 67th minute, some brilliant work down the left again set up a wonderful cross, which was headed in by Laiwang as the goalkeeper was completely bamboozled.

The final nail in the coffin was provided by Karandeeo Singh, whose freekick in the 87th minute from a tight angle found the back of the net.

With that, Delhi FC wrapped up a comfortable 4-0 win to enter the final.

They have scored nine goals in four games on their road to the final, while conceding just one.

They will play Nagaland Police in the final on Monday, April 3.
