The 1.80-metre wideman was handed his Bundesliga bow against 1.FC Köln in March 2021, claiming an assist to earn Dortmund a 2-2 draw. The Göttingen native helped Borussia Dortmund’s U-23s reach the third division last term, as well as making a brief appearance in the first team’s successful DFB Cup campaign.
Since making his senior debut as an 18-year-old, Knauff has racked up 16 first-team appearances and 36 outings for Dortmund’s second team. The 20-year-old’s speed, determination and versatility sets him apart, with Knauff just as capable on the right wing as he is on the left. He has even appeared at right-back.
“Ansgar fits very well into our team with his speed and understanding of the game and wants to take the next step in his development here,” said board member for sport Markus Krösche. “He’s capable of helping us on the flanks straight away.”
