Kristijan Jakic initially arrived in Frankfurt on loan from Dinamo Zagreb in summer 2021. After a successful season, in which he made 38 competitive appearances, he was signed on a permanent deal and was a first-team regular in the following campaign as well.
In total the Croatian has featured 82 times for the Eagles, registering two goals and two assists as well as contributing to the historic triumph in the 2022 UEFA Europa League. Last term he played in all of Eintracht’s matches in the UEFA Champions League.
Jakic has now joined Bundesliga rivals FC Augsburg on loan for the second half of the current campaign, with the Bavarian club possessing an option to make the move permanent.
Kristijan Jakic said, “After a nice and successful time in Frankfurt, in which I was able to play a lot of games, especially in the first two seasons, it is now time for me to start a new chapter. With my consistent style of play, I fit in very well with Augsburg’s idea of the game and I’m eager to wear the FCA shirt soon.”
Eintracht Frankfurt board member for sport Markus Krösche said, “Kristijan Jakic was an important player in our team in the last couple of years thanks to his mentality. He played a leading role in our successes, especially winning the Europa League in 2022. He hasn’t played as much as he’d have liked this season, which is why we’ve granted his request to go out on loan. We wish him all the best.”
FC Augsburg sporting director Marinko Jurendic said, “Despite his age, Kristijan is already very experienced and impresses with his strong tackling ability. With the signing, our team gets a reliable, strong defensive player who fits our style of play in terms of football and character. I’m convinced that he will acclimatise quickly at FCA and help us achieve our goals.”
