endviolence-2016-fifa-u20-womens-world-cupThe FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Papua New Guinea does not only showcase the best young female footballers in the world, it also provides a crucial platform for the #ENDviolence campaign focused on ending violence towards women and children.

The initiative forms part of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup sustainability programme and sets out to develop respect, understanding and tolerance among girls and boys, women and men and the community as a whole, with the overall goal of reducing risk factors associated with gender-based violence in the Pacific.

Both semifinal duels on Tuesday, November 29 paid tribute to the campaign as the captains of each team read out a statement in their native language before kick-off to denounce violence against women and children. All of the players and match officials then gathered for a group photo behind a banner bearing the #ENDviolence hashtag!
