Earlier in the day, the latest FIFA ‘Coca Cola’ Men’s World Ranking were released by the world football governing body and in it India moved up four places to 148th position behind Yemen and ahead of Afghanistan.
India have 205 points, five more than last month and also gain a spot as 26th position in the Asian (AFC) rankings.
India gained the points from the international friendly victory against Puerto Rico with the Caribbean islanders losing 24 spots to be now 138th. At the moment India has no matches lined-up for the next few months though the AIFF is looking to play another friendly before the start of the I-League.
In South Asia, India moved back into top spot after quite a while ahead of Afghanistan (149th), Maldives (165th), Bangladesh (185th), Nepal (186th), Bhutan (189th), Sri Lanka (193rd) and Pakistan (194th).
There were a couple pf changes in the top 5. Argentina stay in top position with 1,646 points ahead of Belgium (1,369 pts), while FIFA World Cup winners Germany (1,347 pts) gained a spot to be third while Colombia (1,323 pts) droped a place to be joint fourth with Brazil (1,323 pts), who gained five places in the rankings.
