Fifth AFC Youth Panel Meeting concludes!

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Youth Panel concluded its fifth meeting in the Malaysian capital on Thursday, April 26.

The panel – which is overseen by the AFC Technical Committee and AFC General Secretary – is tasked with supporting the promotion and development of Elite Youth Football in Asia as well as designing and implementing the AFC Youth Academy Endorsement Scheme.

Dato’ Windsor John, the AFC General Secretary, said in his opening remarks, “We would like to congratulate Asako Takakura for winning the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2018 title with Japan as well as the members of this panel for the hard work they have put in for the development of the game.”

Takakura was presented with a special memento to commemorate her accomplishment – her second AFC Women’s Asian Cup title with the Nadeshiko. The AFC Elite Youth Team Scheme is an important step in talent development that will help the Member Associations (MAs) to establish youth academies/training centres and to grade these as a method of improving standards and delivering players to the professional game.

AFC Technical Director Andy Roxburgh, who led the meeting, highlighted on the updated AFC Elite Youth Scheme Regulations and Guidelines for 2018.

The 14-member panel deliberated on other key issues faced by the MAs especially in the development of young players.
