The 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup has witnessed plenty of history and more will be written when CF Pachuca hosts Columbus Crew in the Final on June 1 at the Estadio Hidalgo in Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico.

CF Pachuca overcame Club America 3-2 on aggregate and earned the right to host based on its performance during the tournament. Columbus Crew advanced to its first ever final with a 5-2 win on aggregate over CF Monterrey.

Here are some statistics and milestones that stand out prior to the upcoming final:

2.3 goals per game

A total of 64 goals and 45 assists have come in the finals since the format changed in 2008/09, an average of 2.3 goals per game.

Final Matches with Most Goals

The victory with the most goals in the history of the tournament’s finals is 7-1 between CD FAS against Jong Colombia in 1979, a total of eight goals.

The finals in 2012/13, between CF Monterrey and Santos Laguna, and 2014/15, between CF Montreal and Club America, have been the highest scoring of the modern era with six goals.

Finals with Most Goals on Aggregate

The 2014/15 edition, won by Club América 5-3 over CF Montreal featured eight goals over two legs. Club América and CF Montreal tied 1-1 in the first leg, and Club América won 4-2 in the second leg.

Most goals scored by a team

CF Monterrey holds the record for the most goals scored in finals with 13. Second on the list is Club América with nine.

Most goals scored by a player

Humberto Suazo (CF Monterrey) is the player with most goals in the finals with five. Darío Benedetto (Club América) is next with four.

Oribe Peralta (Santos/Club América), Aldo De Nigris (CF Monterrey), Nicolás Lodeiro (Seattle Sounders), and André-Pierre Gignac (Tigres UANL) have three each.

Most assists by a player

Osvaldo Martínez (Club América) is the player with most assists in the finals with three.

Darwin Quintero (Santos/Club América), Ignacio Piatti (CF Montreal), Rubens Sambueza (Club América), Rafael Marquez Lugo (Atlante FC) and Luis Rodríguez (Tigres UANL) each have two.

Method of goals

Since the 2008/09 edition, the goals have come from the following methods:

Goals by position

Excluding the own goal, seven goals have been scored by defenders, 18 by midfielders, and 38 by forwards.

Additionally, 6 out of the 64 goals scored were netted by substitutes.

Clean sheets

There have been 16 clean sheets out of 56 possible.

Additionally, three games ended nil-nil, all between Mexican rivals: Atlante FC vs. Cruz Azul on May 12, 2009, Santos Laguna vs. CF Monterrey on April 24, 2013, and Cruz Azul vs. Toluca FC on April 15, 2014.

Decided on penalties

Since the format change, the only finals where a penalty shootout was needed was in 2018 between CD Guadalajara and Toronto FC. CD Guadalajara won the first leg, 2-1, in Toronto. Toronto FC won 2-1 in the second leg, forcing penalties. Guadalajara won 4-2 on penalties.

Prior to the format change, the 2007 finals between Pachuca and CD Guadalajara required penalties after both sides tied 2-2 on aggregate. Pachuca took a 7-6 triumph in the shootout.

Fastest goal in a final

Since 2008/09, Rodolfo Pizarro (CD Guadalajara) holds the quickest goal in a CONCACAF Champions Cup final with 63 seconds, in the 2-1 first leg victory against Toronto FC on April 17, 2018, at BMO Field.

Youngest player to score in a final

Fernando Navarro (Atlante FC) is the youngest player to score at 20 years and 4 days, in the 0-2 victory against Cruz Azul April 22, 2009, at the Ciudad de los Deportes Stadium.

Oldest player to score in a final

Ángel Mena (Club León) scored from a penalty in the 2-1 first leg victory against LAFC on May 31, 2023, at Estadio Leon to become the oldest player to score in a final at 35 years, 4 months, and 11 days.
