Gokulam Kerala FC thrash BSS in IFA Shield, set up clash with Mohammedan Sporting!

Gokulam Kerala FC made amendments for its first defeat as Dennis Antwi scored four goals to drub BSS Sports Club 7-2 and storm into the quarterfinals of the IFA Shield at Howrah Stadium on Saturday.

Gokulam Kerala FC will meet I-League rivals Mohammedan Sporting Club in the quarterfinal to be played on Monday, December 14.

Gokulam Kerala FC’s Ghanaian striker Dennis Antwi started the scoring in the eighth minute of the match itself from the penalty spot as the Malabarians were awarded a spot-kick for handball.

He doubled up the lead four minutes later and completed his hattrick in the 19th minute. That was a memorable start for the Ghanaian, who has come to India after playing in the top leagues in Sweden and Norway.

The score was 3-0 at the break and Dennis re-started his scoring spree once the match resumed. Antwi’s fourth goal was aided by Jithin MS as he dribbled past two defenders and gave him a cutthroat pass.

Soon after Gokulam Kerala FC head coach Annese replaced Dennis with Malian striker Saliou Guindo. But the Ghanaian’s absence didn’t deter Malabarians from scoring goals as Shibil, Jithin, and Ronald along with Saliou upped the ante.

Last seasons Gokulam Kerala FC’s Indian I-League top scorer Shibil scored the fifth goal, followed by Jithin MS. It was Jithin’s much-awaited debut goal for the Malabarians.

BSS were able to score goal two goals on the counter as Malabarians rabidly hounded their post in search of goals even after the match had tilted in its favour.

Saliou hammered the final blow on BSS as he collected a rebound and shot past the BSS goalie.

“In the first match, we were not able to score any goals. So we worked hard the past week. I am so happy to score four goals today. There is more to come and we need to keep working hard,” said Dennis Antwi after scoring four goals for Malabarians.
