Eintracht Frankfurt has appointed Joti Chatzialexiou as the club’s new board member for sport. The 50-year-old will assume control of Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG’s sports department on 1 February 2027 after signing a contract until 30 June 2030.
For now, Frankfurt native Chatzialexiou remains under contract at 1. FC Nürnberg. His deal with the Bundesliga 2 club runs until 2028 but includes a release clause allowing him to join Eintracht Frankfurt, which has now been triggered. Chatzialexiou will continue to fulfil his duties at Nürnberg before moving to Frankfurt.
Chatzialexiou is an experienced figure in German football, having held various positions in over two decades with the German Football Association (DFB) – including his most recent role as sporting director for Germany’s national teams – before joining Nürnberg in summer 2024. His main area of expertise lies in strategic sports development, youth development, and building high-performance structures in the field of sport. He has also done an outstanding job in improving Nürnberg’s squad in recent years.
Mathias Beck, Eintracht Frankfurt president and chairman of the Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG supervisory board, said, “We’ve achieved a great deal together in recent years and have made progress we can be proud of. At the same time, it’s our goal to continue our successful journey and prepare Eintracht for the challenges that lie ahead in the coming years. In Joti Chatzialexiou, we’re appointing someone who is an excellent fit for our club, both professionally and personally. He has a high level of professional expertise, a clear vision, and a commitment to developing young players. It’s particularly important to us that he knows and understands Eintracht’s identity, and what this club means to the people of Frankfurt and our region. We want to nurture our youngsters even more and focus more closely on the German market, all while maintaining our international ambitions. Joti is incredibly well equipped for this. I’m convinced that he, along with Axel Hellmann and the entire board, will provide the impetus we need to keep developing Eintracht Frankfurt in a way that is both successful on the pitch and responsible financially.”
Axel Hellmann, Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG CEO, added, “Joti Chatzialexiou is a proven expert who I have known and respected for many years. He has an outstanding network, extensive experience in developing sporting structures, and a clear understanding of the demands of modern professional football. Our task is to align Eintracht Frankfurt’s sporting ambitions with financial stability and the sustainable development of the entire club. To that end, a tight and trusting bond among the entire executive board is of vital importance – and Joti will play a key role in that. We wholeheartedly respect the fact that Joti still has a job at 1. FC Nürnberg, and we really admire the work he has done there. We’re all the more pleased that, when he takes up his role here on 1 February 2027, we’ll be able to shape the next chapter of our development together.”
In appointing Joti Chatzialexiou, Eintracht Frankfurt has underlined its commitment to shaping the club’s sporting and financial development in a long-term and sustainable manner. In particular, the club aims to strengthen its development of young players, its strategic squad planning, and the collaboration between the club’s sporting and financial divisions.
