Minerva Punjab FC & Army Green declared joint winner of Sukhia Gold Cup!

The Minerva Punjab FC reserves faced the Army Green football team in the final of the Sukhia Gold Cup in Darjeeling on Friday, October 26.

Minerva Punjab FC reserves kicked off the first half and looked lethal from the very beginning. In the 10th minute, Minerva Punjab FC came close to open the scoring but the ball was just inches away from perfection. The Warriors dominated the midfield and made many attacks. In 25th minute Devansh made a spectacular save to deny the opposition. Minerva Punjab FC dominated the 1st half of the play and made so many chances but couldn’t find the opening goal as both teams went to the tunnel as they were at the start of the game.

There were numerous breaks in the game due to bad weather already. The match officials had to stop the match on many occasions and this time, the duration of the half-time break got stretched more than expected. Later on, the second half kicked off and the warriors again started searching for the goal, as a result, Himanshu got the first goal in the 70th minute. Two minutes later Army Green equalized. Five minutes later, again there was a disruption to the game due to bad weather. The referee then had a chat with the match officials and he blew the final whistle. The match was abandoned due to bad weather. The organizers, according to their by-law declared both the teams as joint winners.

After the second successive Punjab Super League title, this was the second title the Warriors have won this season so far and their main aim is to give their all to win the I-League trophy once again.

In the preseason, Minerva Punjab FC have had a decent number of matches under their belt. They played a couple of games against the Indian Super League sides like NorthEast United FC, Bengaluru FC and FC Goa.

Minerva Punjab FC enjoyed a great pre-season with two titles, a win over Bengaluru FC and a draw against NorthEast United FC. They are now fully focused on the upcoming I-League season which is expected to kick-off on November 30.
