Newcomers Electric Veng FC ended their slide as they beat fellow new side Chawnpui FC 2-0 in the final game of round 13 to halt their run of three consecutive defeats.
After an incredible start that saw them earn 16 from 21 available points in the first phase, Electric Veng FC then went on to earn just one point from their last five games.
But first half goals from R. Lalthanmawia and R. Lalremsanga were enough to seal all three points and put them back into firm contention for a semi-final spot.
Electric Veng FC took advantage of a horrendous error by Chawnpui FC keeper Thomas Lalthlamuana for the opener with forward R. Lalthanmawia capitalising on a golden opportunity.
Chawnpui FC then tried to hit back through Vanlalthanga and K Roluahpuia who both were denied by Electric Veng FC goalkeeper Nunga Hnamte.
Electric Veng FC scored their second in the 25th minute with Vanlalremruata providing an inviting ball for Vanlalremsanga to finish.
K. Roluahpuia almost pulled one back right before half-time but he could not beat Nunga Hnamte for the second time as Electric Veng FC maintained their two goal cushion at half-time.
The second period saw Chawnpui looking to get back in the game but Electric Veng FC were firm in possession and solid as the back as they protected their two goal lead.
Lianzama and Jerry F. Zonunsanga were introduced by Chawnpui FC in the second half which added more attacking impetus to their game but with little result.
A red card for David Laltlansanga made things more difficult for Chawnpui FC as their semifinal hopes are now dashed in an impressive campaign.
