Nagaland’s Neithovilie Chalieu (Shillong Lajong FC) set for I-League debut!

A young 18 year old Naga lad, Neithovilie Chalieu, has made it into the squad of Shillong Lajong Football Club for the upcoming 2017/18 I-League.

Chalieu is part of the 24 member squad of Shillong Lajong FC, which was announced earlier this week and he will be fighting for his place against first choice goalkeeper Phurba Tempa Lachenpa from Sikkim and the new signing of Nidhinlal Moolaka Veedu from Kerala.

He is only the third player from the state of Nagaland to feature in an I-League/NFL squad.

In the 1996/97 National Football League, Roko Angami played for Mahindra and Mahindra in a match against the JCT Mills of Jhagwara.

In the 2015-16 I-League, Kwethelhi Thopi played on loan for Aiwzal FC against Bengaluru FC and Mumbai FC in two matches.

“I feel very excited to be part of the squad because it is great opportunity,” Neithovilie Chalieu said. He also thanked his coaches and support staff for giving him this opportunity.

18 year old Neithovilie is the son of Zhagwelhou and Kezhaleno Chalieu, hailing from rural hamlet of Tsiepama village in Dimapur district. He is the fifth child among seven siblings.

Neithovilie Chalieu has played seven matches in the Shillong Premier League earlier this year for Lajong FC.

Shillong Lajong FC finished fifth last season in the I-League which was one of their best seasons in the I-League and this edition, the club will play their 7th consecutive I-League season and will open their campaign against debutants Gokulam Kerala FC on November 27 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong at 8pm.
