Second batch of AFC FMD graduates look forward to impacting Asian football!

Proud participants of the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) Football Management Diploma (FMD) today celebrated their graduation from the landmark programme, which aims to produce game-changing future Asian football leaders.

20 graduates, comprising middle and senior management from the AFC’s Member Associations (MAs), Regional Associations (RAs) and independent stakeholders took part in the 13-month online course, comprising 460 hours of study time across 12 core modules.

These modules comprised the Organisation of World Football, International Sports Federations, Strategic Management, Financial Management, Income Generation, Media & Communications, Event Management, Operational Management, HR Management, Child Safeguarding & Social Responsibility, Sports Law and Club Licensing.

The modules included lectures, quizzes, discussions and presentations, while focusing on strengthening the participants’ understanding of the ways in which football management informs today’s game. They are geared towards developing a range of specific skillsets that provide participants in-depth knowledge of the business side of football.

FMD graduate Mr. Chanthavong Sirimanotham, Deputy General Secretary at Lao Football Federation, said: “The FMD has boosted my abilities in so many ways, and I look forward to using these to contribute to the Asian football community on a much larger scale. I also hope to continuously help the AFC set new milestones both on and off the pitch while simultaneously achieving my overall career goals.”

His fellow graduate Yasuko Takano, Deputy Director of International Relations at Japan Football Association, added: “I think the AFC has done a brilliant job in conceptualising, developing and implementing this programme. From the vast experience and expertise displayed by the instructors to the carefully curated, challenging modules, I find the FMD an irreplaceable experience in boosting one’s knowhow and understanding of the importance of professionalism and good governance in the modern game.”

AFC Deputy General Secretary – Member Associations, Vahid Kardany, in congratulating the graduates said: “You are now on your way towards football management excellence and have opened the door to a future where you will play an even bigger role as a productive, contributing and valuable member of the football community.

“I applaud your enthusiasm and passion towards furthering the development of football, and for wanting to make a difference from behind the scenes to positively impact the game.”

The FMD, which commenced its fifth edition earlier this week, was introduced under the online AFC Academic Centre of Excellence platform. Launched in September 2021, the Centre aspires to develop leaders capable of leaving their imprint on football and steering the AFC’s Vision of becoming the world’s leading confederation.

The inaugural edition of the FMD kicked off in November 2021. The second was unveiled in January 2022, the third in May 2022 and the fourth edition in October 2022.
