The 2018/19 season of the Mizoram Football Association (MFA) starts today!

The new season under the Mizoram Football Association officially begins from today, June 1, 2018 and runs until May 31, 2019. The MFA has laid out a blueprint for the new season which includes new initiatives that it will undertake as the season progresses.

Inter-District Championship

The MFA will have four competitions in which the eight District Football Associations will compete against each other.

It will have the Inter-District Sub Junior Boys Football Championship, Inter-District Junior Boys Championship, Inter-District Junior Girls Championship and the MFA Cup where the best clubs under each District FA will battle against each other.

Mizoram Premier League – Season 7

After six successful and fruitful seasons, the Mizoram Premier League will return for a seventh season in late-August/early-September 2018. The MFA and Zonet TV will again coordinate for the 7th edition of the top flight football league in the state along with its youth version, MPL Under-18.

MFA Super Cup

The biggest club football competition in the state, the MFA Super Cup will be played in the month of July this season. Registered clubs under the MFA and the District FAs are eligible for the competition. It will be the richest knockout tournament in the state, and the only competition in which clubs under the MFA and District FA will be able to battle directly against each other for a trophy.

Independence Day Football

The oldest football competition currently played under the MFA, the Independence Day Football Tournament will take place again this year with the final scheduled to be played on August 15, 2018.

The format of I-Day Football has been altered from time to time during the years, and the MFA is yet to decide on the invitation of teams from outside the state in this year’s edition.

Women’s League

The Mizoram Football Association will begin its inaugural Women’s Football League this season, with plans already in motion from the MFA Executive Committee. The duration, participants and format of the league will be determined by an Organising Board.

Under-15 League

The MFA, in collaboration with Tata Trusts, will also bring the inaugural Under-15 League this season. Tata Trusts and the MFA have already signed an agreement to set up a first rate league for Under 15s in the state.

Referee & Coach Education
The MFA has plans to set up as many referee clinics as possible this season.

It will arrange referee refresher courses with the AIFF, as well as set up referee clinics for District FAs during the season.

It will also continue its emphasis on coach education, with plans for training programmes of new coaches as well as refresher courses for current coaches already in place.

Grassroots & Youth Development

The MFA will continue with its cultivation of Grassroots Football in the state with plans to upgrade existing Grassroot Centres with the aid of Tata Trusts.

It has also laid plans for school and college football with Reliance Foundation Youth Sports.

Futsal

As directed by the Asian Football Confederation to the All India Football Federation regarding the cultivation of Futsal, the AIFF Futsal Committee had requested each state FA to take initiatives for the cultivation of Futsal. The MFA had duly set up a Futsal Committee in the last season and it has plans to take a wider initiative in the upcoming new season.

The MFA Futsal League will be back for a second season, with additional tournaments to be set up during the course of the entire season.
