Football in Australia is still playing catch-up in a saturated sports market. Sports such as Australian rules football, cricket, and rugby league have left little room for Australians to throw their hearts and minds behind the round ball. But the landscape is slowly changing.

The Socceroos are gradually uniting a nation around football through their exploits on the pitch. In 2015 they lifted the AFC Asian Cup for the first time and in January they’ll be looking to defend their crown in the United Arab Emirates.

Success breeds popularity and together with a new domestic league, a popular women’s national team, and a passionate fan base, the Socceroos are striving to propel football to the top of the food chain.
