Ishfaq has also played as a central midfielder and can also fill in as a winger. He started his career in his home state of Kashmir before shifting to Bangalore and then he played the most successful club in India Dempo SC, then later played for big clubs such as Mohun Bagan AC, Salgaocar FC, East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting Club before now joining Mumbai FC.
