This after the BCCI was forced to shift IPL matches outside Maharashtra due to drought situation. With drought conditions affecting major parts of the country especially Maharashtra, the AIFF does not have a ‘Plan-B’ of shifting the venue out of Mumbai. The Indian Premier League had to shift the venues out of Maharashtra from May 1 this season owing to drought.
But given that the venues and host cities are set by world football governing body FIFA, India could lose the right to host the tournament if any late changes to venues are decided by the governments and courts.
