Women’s football superhero is born in new AFC Women’s Asian Cup logo!

The new AFC Women’s Asian Cup logo was launched yesterday at the final draw for the 2018 edition of the competition at the Dead Sea in Jordan. The new logo concept features the female footballer as a superheroine – capturing the strength, agility, intelligence and bravery in the women’s game.

The central figure of the new logo is drawn in a dramatic, dynamic position, as female footballers are shown to be awe-inspiring on and off the pitch. In addition to the superheroine, the logo incorporates a depiction of the football pitch with an emphasis on the power and skill of the modern female player.

The AFC Women’s Asian Cup is a pioneer as it is the world’s oldest continental women’s national team competition. The competing teams represent the world’s leading women’s football countries, as well as the incredible variety present only in Asia. Asia has a FIFA Women’s World Cup winner (Japan in 2011) and five of the world’s top 20 women’s football teams are from Asia.

The 2018 edition will again break new ground, as it is held for the first time in West Asia, the most western AFC Member Association. Some of the world’s best female footballers will battle it out for the crown of Asia with the historic capital of Jordan, Amman as their backdrop.

In the new logo, the “Elements of Jordan” sub-graphic was designed to capture the spirit and essence of Jordan, the AFC Women Asian Cup’s host country for 2018. Notable symbols such as the palm tree, the camel and the “Rababa” (a bowed instrument with Arabic origins) are featured throughout the layout of the sub-graphic.

Instantly recognisable also are the depictions of famous historical, religious and cultural Jordanian sites, such as the King Abdullah Mosque, Petra, and the Ruins of Citadel Amman.

The sub-graphic also features some central symbols of the game – the ball, the pitch, the fans, and of course, the player. The curved lines and a variety of shapes present a sense of dramatic energy and excitement and follow the main colour choices of the primary logo.

The 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup builds a bridge across Asia, from Australia to Jordan, bringing together the East and West. In addition to continental glory, places are up for grabs for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
