DFL (Bundesliga) & Deltatre form Sportec Solutions in data partnership

BundesligaThe parent body of the German Bundesliga, the DFL, through its broadcast services subsidiary Sportcast has signed a major digital partnership with sports media firm Deltatre, to form a new joint company in Sportec Solutions.

The new company will gather, monitor and analyse all official match data for the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga to utilise Deltatre’s innovative research and development solutions to create marketable insights.

The move takes DFL data gathering in-house for the first time and will give the league full control of what it describes as its ‘core asset’.

The agreement is the first major deal struck by Deltatre since being acquired by George Pyne’s sports investment vehicle Bruin Sports Capital last July.

“The main reason for this step is the growing market expectations with respect to the scope, quality and availability of official match data, both nationally and internationally,” said DFL director of football affairs and supports Ansgar Schweken.

“German professional football would also like to highlight itself as a driving force in the development of innovative content, which will be supported by Deltatre’s skills and experience.”

Giampiero Rinaudo, chief executive of Deltatre, added: “DFL and Deltatre both have a long history, paired with a common strong push to innovate. We are proud to partner on this exciting initiative and put our experience, creative and technology at Sportec Solutions’ disposal.”

“DFL will benefit from our growing expertise in the football data field, and together we will support the DFL in bringing football to the next level.”
