The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) joined hands with the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) to conduct a Child Safeguarding seminar from July 14-15, 2022.
The seminar was aimed at supporting the CAFA’s efforts in developing and promoting Child Safeguarding in Central Asia.
Over the two days, the seminar focused on helping the participants understand the various ways in which they can assist their respective associations uphold the principles of Child Safeguarding.
A total of five Child Safeguarding Officers were also trained in problem solving and decision-making which are essential skills in ensuring that all activities involving children are undertaken within a secure environment.
Focusing on increasing awareness regarding the various ways to protect children from harm or abuse, the seminar sought to devise strategies to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of Child Safeguarding commitments within the Member Associations (MAs).
CAFA General Secretary, Ulugbek Karimov said: “For our organisation, the general idea of safeguarding is very important and with support from the Asian Football Confederation we managed to organise this important and useful seminar for the safeguarding officers of our Member Associations.
“I want to personally thank Child Safeguarding expert John Harris and the AFC for their contribution and for sharing their experience and expertise on the matter. Moreover, we are grateful to the Child Safeguarding Officers for their active participation.”
It is expected that with the experience gained from this seminar, the participating members will share their learnings and lend their support wherever needed to help contribute towards building a safe space for young people in the football ecosystem.
