The Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s unwavering commitment to producing world-class referees was further underlined at the AFC Elite Futsal Referee Instructors Seminar 2023 which took place from August 17 to 19 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Spanning over three days, the seminar saw 11 participants from across the AFC’s Member Associations (MAs) receive valuable guidance from some of the world’s most renowned Referee Instructors, namely Pedro Angel Galan Nieto from Spain, Malaysia’s Badrul Hisham Bin Kalam, and Seyedsadreddin Mousavi from the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The programme was carefully curated to equip the Referee Instructors with the latest knowledge and tools in order for them to keep representing Asia at the highest level to the best of their abilities.
On the first day of the seminar, after briefly reviewing the activities of the recently concluded AFC Elite Futsal Referees Seminar 2023, the participants were updated on the latest amendments introduced to the 2023/24 edition of the Laws of the Game, to ensure that the Confederation’s officials are kept abreast of all the latest trends of the industry.
The events of Day 1 were wrapped up with the instructors engaging in a constructive dialogue where they discussed the best ways to prepare and carry out debriefing sessions with referees after matchdays to help the latter execute their duties on the field with utmost precision.
Keeping up with the latest technological advancements, the seminar introduced the Video Support (VS) technology to the instructors on the second day. This innovative tool, already introduced at the 2021 edition of the FIFA Futsal World Cup in Lithuania allows officials to review their decisions using pitch-side screens, thereby enhancing the accuracy of decisions being made on the field.
The AFC Elite Futsal Referee Instructors Seminar 2023 was an endeavour at producing highly skilled referees who can uphold the integrity of the sport and contribute to the AFC’s efforts towards becoming a leading Confederation, as outlined in its Vision and Mission.
