The first development course for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Project Future Referees 2016 batch got underway on Thursday, April 13 in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.
The main objective of the course is to evaluate the ability of the Project Future referees to handle real matches and assess their technical, physical and attitudinal skills.
Throughout the six days of the course, the 21 participants will go through rigorous fitness test, video quizzes to test their knowledge on the Laws of the Game, classroom theoretical sessions on handball and tactical fouls, dealing with problems, positioning and movement, penalty area incidents, match refereeing and analysis, as well as a practical session that simulates match incidents for the referees to assess and evaluate.
Organised by the AFC Referees Department, the course will be conducted by the AFC Instructors Mohamad Rodzali Yacob and Sankar Komaleeswaran.
The two-year programme will take place in three more face-to-face development courses. The second is to be held in Male, Maldives, where the participants will be given the opportunity to officiate at Football Association of Maldives’ Dhivehi League matches.
The third development course will see the participants return to Fukuoka in Japan to officiate at the Sanix Cup International Youth Football Tournament. The 2016 batch will then graduate in Kuala Lumpur at the fourth and final course.
