Albert Riera to be new Eintracht Frankfurt head coach!

The 43-year-old Spaniard Albert Riera will take charge at Eintracht Frankfurt from Monday, February 2 on a contract valid until June 30, 2028.

Albert Riera enjoyed recent success with Slovenian top-flight club NK Celje, whom he steered to domestic cup glory in his first year at the helm. Celje, based in the north-east of the country, currently have a 12-point lead at the top of the standings in the Slovenian league, while Riera has also guided the side into the UEFA Conference League knockout phase play-offs.

Riera’s first role as head coach was at Olimpija Ljubljana, where he oversaw a Slovenian league and cup double in 2023. He also gained experience at French club Girondins Bordeaux in 2023/24.

Serial winner as a player

Riera, who was born in the Mallorcan town of Manacor in 1982, started out in the game in the Balearic Islands as a youngster. After leaving RCD Mallorca he had spells in France, Spain, England, Türkiye and Italy before ending his career in Slovenia.

As a player, Riera stood out thanks to his will to win and professional mindset, which helped him amass 430 competitive games – including at Premier League clubs Liverpool and Manchester City. He won a total of six titles during his stints at Mallorca, Galatasaray and Olympiacos, while he earned 16 senior international caps for Spain.
