Former ISL champions ATK appoint Steve Coppell as their new head coach!

Two-time Indian Super League champions ATK have named Englishman Steve Coppell as their head coach for the upcoming ISL – Season 5 to rebuild the team after a failed ISL-4 campaign which ended with missing the playoffs for the first-time.

62 year old Steve Coppell was a right-winger known for his speed and work rate. He won domestic honours for Manchester United with 322 appearances and 53 goals and also got 42 England caps from 1977 to 1983 and he represented the Three Lions at the 1978 FIFA World Cup with his career cut short by an injury.

Thereafter Steve Coppell launched a successful coaching career in 1984 and was coach at clubs like Bristol City, Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester City, Brentford FC, Crawley Town and thereafter came to India to coach Kerala Blasters (2016) and Jamshedpur FC (2017/18) in the ISL.

Steve Coppell said, “I am delighted to accept the position of Head Coach for ATK for the coming season. ATK has a proud history in the ISL and I hope that with the hard work and skill, we can match the ambitions of our fans and everyone associated with the Club.”

“I am glad to welcome our new Head Coach Steve Coppell to the ATK family. It has been our effort to build an experienced and balanced side, which will be enhanced with Coppell joining the squad this season. One of the world’s most respected wingers and an exceptional manager himself, I am hopeful Steve will lead the way for ATK with his unique strategies and his enthusiasm,” said ATK principal owner Sanjiv Goenka.
