A Diego Forlan hattrick powered Mumbai City FC to a big 5-0 win over the Kerala Blasters in the Indian Super League – Season 3 at the Mumbai Football Arena in Andheri on Saturday evening.
The hosts had the perfect start in the 5th minute with Matias Defederico sending a through ball to Diego Forlan, who beat keeper Graham Stack in goal and the Blasters never recovered from this early strike. To make matters worse for the visitors, Forlan scored his second of the night on 14 minutes of a free kick.
Forlan could have completed his hattrick within the first half hour, but he was denied before Didier Boris Kadio’s attempt just flew over Amrinder Singh’s goal in the 40th minute. Mumbai City took a comfortable 2-0 lead into the break.
In the 62nd minute, C.K. Vineeth’s attempt was saved by Amrinder but only a minute later at the other end Forlan completed his hattrick with a placed shot, this seasons first ISL hattrick and again Mumbai City were involved in it.
The Blasters were now in tatters as Cafu added to their misery with a placed shot in the 69th minute and then in the 73rd minute defender Lucian Goian headed in Mumbai City’s fifth, who could have added a few more with the best chance falling to Sunil Chhetri but his attempt was saved by Graham Stack, which means he remains goalless in this ISL campaign.
Once the referee blew the final whistle, Mumbai City FC had won 5-0, the biggest win of ISL-3 so far.
