A drab ISL-4 south Indian derby between former champions Chennaiyin FC and double finalists Kerala Blasters only came to life in the last few minutes with the Blaster equalising at the Marina Arena in the last second of the match on Friday night.
The derby which saw both sets of fans making a lot of noise sadly never rose to the great heights of former encounters as it was scrappy affair overall.
The match really came alive in the last few minutes as either team could not utilise their few chances earlier in the match. In the 87th minute referee Pranjan Banerjee blew for a debatable Chennaiyin FC penalty as a Francisco Fernandes shot hit Sandesh Jhingan on the arm. Substitute Rene Mihelic coolly slotted it home and one thought the three points are in the bag for the hosts.
But more drama was in store as Chennaiyin FC played negative football, try to get to corner posts to avoid having to give away the initiative but it backfired as in the 94th minute, Jhingan squared the ball into the box and at the far end C.K. Vineeth just had to push the ball in to score an unlikely equaliser.
