Manchester City to play Yokohama F・Marinos & Bayern Munich on 2023 Asia Tour!

Manchester City will play two pre-season fixtures in Tokyo, Japan as part of the club’s trip to Asia in preparation for the 2023/24 season.

Prior to the recently announced fixture against Atletico Madrid in Seoul, South Korea on 30th July 2023, City will travel to Tokyo to face CFG sister club and current J.League Champions Yokohama F・Marinos on July 23, followed by Bayern Munich on July 26, completing the Club’s preseason fixture line up. Both fixtures will take place at the Japan National Stadium in Tokyo.

City last played current J.League Champions Yokohama F・M during the Club’s preseason visit to Asia in 2019, securing a 3-1 victory at the Nissan Stadium. Shaun Wright-Phillips also visited Yokohama F・M’s stadium as part of Manchester City’s Global Trophy Tour in November 2022, bringing both the Premier League Trophy and J.League Trophy together.

FC Bayern Munich are no strangers to Manchester City, with the two sides most recently coming head-to-head in this season’s Champions League Quarter-Finals. City has also previously faced the Bundesliga club in a number of preseason matches , most recently in 2022 at Green Bay’s iconic Lambeau Field.

Esteve Calzada, Chief Commercial Officer at City Football Group, said, “We are delighted to announce further details of this year’s preseason tour to Asia, completing our full schedule for the trip with two fixtures against Yokohama F・Marinos and FC Bayern Munich in Tokyo.”

“The Club has previously enjoyed trips to Japan, most recently in 2019, and our presence in the country has continued to grow in recent years. Our Asia tour to Japan and Korea is exciting as we look to collaborate with our partners within the region to bring exciting activations to our fanbase in the countries.”

Yoshikazu NONOMURA, Chairman of J.League, said, “In this, the 30th anniversary year of the J.League, we are delighted to announce that we will be hosting two spectacular matches, welcoming two top-tier European clubs, Manchester City and Bayern Munich.”

“I expect Yokohama F・Marinos, one of the most successful clubs in J.League, having won the J.League opening match in 1993 and five league titles including last year’s league championship, to show us a great game with their own attacking football against Manchester City that has shown the most remarkable growth in recent decades in English Premier League. I am confident that the voices and enthusiasm of the supporters filling the stadium will make for great matches.”
