Aizawl FC increased their lead to seven points with a victory against FC Venghnuai on Tuesday, October 25.
A close battle against one of the chasing pack in FC Venghnuai saw Aizawl FC take the lead from a spot kick in the first half. FC Venghnuai’s Lalnunzira handled the ball inside his own box midway into the first half and conceded a penalty. Aizawl FC’s Lalchhawnkima duly dispatched the penalty.
FC Venghnuai tried hard to find an equaliser in the second half as they created several openings. But a resolute Aizawl FC backline prevented them from finding the cutting edge required in the final third.
The champions sealed victory late on when promising youngster Lalthankima struck in a beauty of a goal in the 90th minute.
