The 6th edition of the Parikrma Champions League 2016 will be held once more for young footballers in Bengaluru. A total of 16 teams, thirteen of Bengaluru’s best Under-16 teams, one team from Kerala and two teams from Goa will battle it out for this year’s cup!
The Parikrma Champions League in association with the All India Football Federation, Karnataka State Football Association and Bangalore District Football Association is back with its sixth edition and according to the organisers it promises to be the ‘Finest in Football!’.
Parikrma Humanity Foundation CEO Shukla Bose said, “We are proud to present the 6th edition of Parikrma Champions League. Parikrma believes that Sports play a significant role in the all- round development of children in schools. Today the field of sports is offering attractive career options as well. The fact that we have been running this highly successful and popular football tournament for 6 years goes to show our interest and support for the game of football.”
This year the tournament will be inaugurated by I-League CEO Sunando Dhar on Thursday, November 24 at the Bangalore Football Stadium.
Parikrma Humanity Foundation has always had an infectious enthusiasm for sports and this year all teams will battle it out for the Equality Cup, a uniquely designed trophy that symbolizes the breaking down of social barriers and celebrating the spirit of football in its truest sense.
This year they continue with the Coaches’ Pledge – where all participating coaches pledge fair play. In keeping with the belief of fair play, the players undergo a Bone-density test to determine their ages correctly.
In an effort to raise the level of the game each year, the matches this year will have 20-minute halves and the semifinals and finals will have 30-minute halves. The Parikrma Champions League 2016 will be a ranking tournament for the top 8 teams who will move into the quarterfinals after the league stage. Outstanding individual performances and skill will be awarded with exciting prizes and the school with the best spirit of sportsmanship that creates a high energy atmosphere at the stadium will also receive a thrilling award.
There also will be a special exhibition Under-13 mixed match (both girls and boys) – something that is unique to PCL.
Taking the tournament to the next level, there will also be a CEO exhibition match on the day of the finals. Spotters will identify the most skilled players from across the 16 teams to form a ‘Parikrma All-Star’ team that will take on CEOs of Bengaluru’s leading corporate companies in a 20-minute exhibition match. Getting corporates to get out of their boardroom and come to the field is a way of inculcating a sense of leadership & management training through sports.
Expect large LED screens with custom-made animations, live video feed and a unique score tracking system. Young players will feel like real professionals as they walk onto the field through a tunnel, being cheered on by the crowds.
The players are provided with proper nutritional and healthcare facilities. Manipal Hospital will provide medical support for the tournament, ensuring that a doctor and nurse are present at the stadium on all three days in case of any injuries or medical emergencies.
