Punjab FC sign striker Bidyashagar Singh from Kerala Blasters!

Promoted Indian Super League side Punjab FC have announced the signing of striker Bidyashagar Singh from Kerala Blasters on a permanent deal.

25 year old Bidyashagar Singh Khangembam, who was born on Samaram Mayai Leikai in Manipur, is a product of the Tiddim Road Athletic Union (TRAU) FC academy and then moved to East Bengal Club in 2016. He first came into prominence when he took the Kolkata side’s U-18 team to the finals of the 2016-17 U-18 I-League, scoring six goals along the way. He made his senior team debut in 2018 and went on to make 12 appearances for the senior East Bengal team over two seasons.

In 2020, Bidyashagar returned to I-League side TRAU FC. This turned out to be a major turning point in his football career. He scored 12 goals in 15 appearances, including two hattricks, leading TRAU to a third-place finish that seeason. His performances in attack earned him several individual accolades – the Top Scorer award, the ‘Hero of the Season’ award and a place in the I-League ‘Team of the Season’.

Following his exemplary performance in the I-League, he signed with ISL side Bengaluru FC for whom he scored three goals in his 12 appearances in different national and international competitions.

But in early 2023, he was loaned to Kerala Blasters were he made eight ISL appearances before being signed permanently last summer but he only made one substitute appearance and now moves to Punjab FC.

The ISL newcomers will hope that Bidyashagar Singh can showcase his striking abilities for the club.
