Mizoram Football Association to focus on women and youth football!

After attaining some level of success in men’s football at club and state level in recent times, the Mizoram Football Association has decided to further the development of women’s football in the state.

Plans are in motion to invest heavily and bring women’s football into a new light. The MFA also has plans to create a proper age-group league for youth development.

After creating a successful top-flight football league at the local level in the Mizoram Premier League and a proper youth league in the Under-18 Mizoram Premier League. The MFA is on its way to creating a first ever MFA Under-12 League in the state in which 10 teams will compete.

The MFA already has a successful grassroots programme in Mizoram, and is intent on cultivating young talent further. It hopes that the Under-12 League will serve as another stepping stone towards youth development.

The MFA is also looking at another league to bridge the gap between the Under-12 league and the Under-18 Mizoram Premier League.

An eight team MFA Women’s League is also in the process of fruition. Kickoff for this new league is targeted in the month of November this year.

The Inter-District Sub-Junior Football Championship will also be held in November of this year. Champhai will host the tournament and players born between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2005 will be eligible for registration.

The MFA is also organising the Sunfeast Cup 2017 again in Aizawl next month. This Under-13 and Under-16 team tournament will also feature a girls tournament for the first time in both age-groups.

The boys tournament will have 32 teams participating in both age-group while the girls tournament will feature four in each age-group.

The MFA already has plans to launch the MFA Futsal League in January, and qualification playoffs for this league will start this week.

Talks for an Inter-school and Inter-college football competition are also currently under way.
