Guwahati City FC clinch 3rd Assam State Futsal Championship, secure AIFF Qualification!

Guwahati City Football Club (GCFC) once again stamped their authority on Assam’s futsal landscape by emerging champions of the 3rd Assam State Futsal Championship, defeating Akash FC 2-0 in a nerve-wracking penalty shootout in the final held in Guwahati today after a 1-1 at regulation time.

This marks Guwahati City FC’s second state futsal crown in just three years, reaffirming their dominance and consistency in the rapidly growing futsal scene of Assam. The summit clash proved to be an intense and closely fought battle, with both teams failing to break the deadlock during regular time. However, in the decisive penalty shootout, GCFC held their nerves brilliantly, converting their chances while their goalkeeper delivered under pressure to ensure a 2-0 victory.

With this triumph, Guwahati City FC have officially qualified for the prestigious AIFF Club Futsal Championship, where they will represent Assam on the national stage.

GCFC had previously created history during the 2023-24 season by becoming the first-ever club from Assam to participate in the AIFF Futsal Club Championship, held in Vadodara, Gujarat. Their participation then marked a major milestone for Assam futsal, and this latest title signals their determination to build on that legacy.

The club’s journey over the years reflects their growing stature as one of the premier futsal institutions in Northeast India. Their tactical discipline, squad depth, and ability to perform under pressure have made them a benchmark for aspiring futsal teams across the state.

Today’s victory is not just another trophy for Guwahati City FC, but also a proud moment for Assam football as the club continues to elevate the region’s presence in Indian futsal. With another opportunity awaiting at the AIFF Club Futsal Championship, GCFC will now aim to improve upon their previous national campaign and further establish Assam’s credentials in the country’s futsal circuit.
