1.FC Köln name Timo Schultz as new head coach!

1.FC Köln have a new head coach for the men’s first-team. Timo Schultz will be on the sideline for FC in the future. The 46-year-old coach previously worked for FC Basel in Switzerland. Before that, he was head coach of Bundesliga 2 outfit of FC St. Pauli from 2020 to 2022. On Thursday, January 4 morning, Schultz will lead training at Geißbockheim for the first time and begin preparations for the first home game of 2024 against 1.FC Heidenheim on Saturday, January 13.

1.FC Köln Managing Director, Christian Keller said, “A huge task is waiting for us in the coming days, weeks and months, in order to survive in the Bundesliga. We are really happy that Timo Schultz will be the head coach leading us into that challenge. He has personality and the competence to raise the performance potential of our squad. If we take on everything with complete conviction and all our efforts in every area together with Timo Schultz, then we will stay up.”

New 1.FC Köln head coach Timo Schultz said: “I am looking forward to this exciting challenge with a fantastic traditional club. We will work a lot in the next few weeks and intensively too, in order to secure the necessary results. FC belong in the Bundesliga. We can stay up, I am 100% convinced of that.”

Timo Schultz was born on August 26, 1977 in Wittmund, Niedersachsen. After his career as a player, which began in the Werder Bremen youth academy and saw him spend the majority of the time with FC St. Pauli, the former midfielder moved more and more into the coaching side of affairs. He was assistant coach to André Schubert, Michael Frontzeck, Roland Vrabec and Thomas Meggle at FC St. Pauli before he moved into the youth academy as head coach. For the 2020-21 season, Schultz took over as head coach at the second division side, leading the Kiezclub to 10th place and away from relegation. In his second campaign, they finished fifth.
