1.FC Köln plan quarantine-like training camp if Bundesliga restarted!

Earlier than is planned in the DFL medical concept, 1.FC Köln will move into a training camp with the team. The prerequisite is that German politicians give their approval to continue the season.

1.FC Köln will enter into team training, should it be permitted, under the conditions of a training camp. This applies as soon as politicians make a positive decision to continue the Bundesliga season – in the course of the coming week at the earliest. The team, coaching and backroom staff will then come together for team training in a protected location.

This form of voluntary quarantine extends the existing infection control and hygiene concept and is intended to further reduce the risk of infection from COVID-19. The measure will be/has been taken regardless of the results of the COVID-19 tests at FC. The concept of the “Task Force Sports Medicine/ Extraordinary Matchday Operation” of the DFL already provides that all teams go to quarantine-like training camps one week before the games restart. FC, however, prefer to start this period at the beginning of team training.

1.FC Köln managing director Horst Heldt said, “When we go into team training, that means body contact. This can only happen between players when, according to the medical concept of the DFL, that they are all in the knowledge that every member of the training group has tested negative for the virus. We want to reduce the risk of the team being infected from the start and then all can get used to the new situation. Therefore, for us, it is the best option to stay with one another and concentrate on our preparation. Just like in a training camp.”

1.FC Köln managing director Alexander Wehrle said, “It is of enormous importance for the league, but also for all German sport, that we can end the season under the conditions of a reasonable medical concept. At the same time, the health of the players and employees is always the focus. We will therefore update our medical concept again in consultation with the health authorities as soon as new conditions apply if team training is permitted. Voluntary shielding of the team for a certain period helps. With every measure, we stay in close contact with the health department and the DFL’s medical experts.”

Up until a decision is made over the possible continuation of the Bundesliga season, 1.FC Köln will remain in group training under the previous measures. 1.FC Köln will not go into team training with physical contact or tackles in any form.
